THE QUEENS FAVE NAIL VARNISH

It made me smile this week to find out that even the queen likes something just for what it is, rather than just because it’s a designer name. Under her gloves, she has apparently worn the same colour of Essie nail varnish for the past thirty years! According to Essie’s Website, in 1989 Queen Elizabeth's hairdresser wrote a letter to the woman behind the brand: Essie Weingarten asking for the shade called Ballet Slippers and she has worn it ever since!

The nail varnish is a pale pink colour with a sheer finish and costs under £8.00 a bottle. The shade is also popular with brides and supermodels, probably because it matches with everything and it doesn’t ‘steal the show’ as its a plain colour. Feminine and soft certainly not too daring and I'm thinking that when it chips (as all nail polish does) it won't be as noticeable due to the natural colour and won't let her royal appearances own by looking shabby and unkempt. The nail varnish was also mentioned by Meryl Streep’s character in ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ Karlie Kloss once named it as her ‘summer-must have’ and Kate Middleton wore it for her wedding in 2011.It’s good to know that The Queen is a lady who knows what she likes. But, on the other hand is she also a lady who has not had the chance to see what else is out there for the past 30 years? Or, could she be scared of change? Personally i think thats exactly what it is because in my experience Essie nail varnish has been rather shocking and chipped off within a day or two which to me is infuriating to have to keep redoing them. Although i guess she has someone do it for her, the more pampering the better i suppose! Maybe she picks the one that cracks the most on purpose to ensure extra relaxation time the cheeky mrs needs to get out more!
