PRE ARRIVAL TASK

Heidi Bodfish, just started at Nottingham trent University. Before i got here i had a pre arrival task to complete, to gather some different types of media and bring them with me to my first seminar. At first i thought this was pretty nerve racking but the first thing i tackled was the 3 different examples of retail media, which was pretty easy for me as before i came to University i worked for nearly a year in retail in a shop called "OUTFIT" an arcadia department store stocking the likes of Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Burton and Dorothy Perkins to name a few. So i took a couple of photographs of various advertising strategies within the store: the mannequins placed at the front of the store (regularly changed to show off our newest stock) the large wall graphics between garments to break up the stock and categorise the trends around the store and also photographs of the shop windows themselves. Which in our store are completely plain white with plain white mannequins with no hair or makeup to draw attention to the clothes and accessories alone. We were also asked to bring in some physical copies of media, i bought a copy of VOGUE, i thought i was being quite individual when i bought in a copy of DAZED and ID VICE but when i actually arrived at uni i realised infact most of the girls had the exact same, so i really wasn't as edgy as i thought and began to realise infact that although i love the clothes i wear and i love buying them and looking at them. Actually i know next to NOTHING about the fashion world. This became even more apparent when we shared our examples of social media, need i go on. Eager to learn is all i can say.
